The Little Theatre of Walla Walla is made possible by the efforts of Volunteers. Each month, we will shine a spotlight on an individual who helps create magic at the Theatre possible.
Volunteer Spotlight: George smith
George grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D. C. He moved to Walla Walla in 1972 after serving in the Army and spending a couple of years in college in Savannah, Georgia. He first became involved in the Little Theatre after his wife, Kay, got a part in “George Washington Slept Here.” He was earning a living as a general contractor and was asked to help with the set. One thing led to another and he eventually became a set designer and builder. Over the years he overcame his stage fright and auditioned for, and got parts in, a number of productions. He later became a director and has co- directed five full length plays as well as a couple of one acts and a few reader’s theater productions.
George also became involved in volunteering off stage. He was a founding member of the finance committee, chaired the back stage committee, has been a continuous member of the set building crew, worked on the house and grounds committees and served on the Board of Directors off and on for 13 years.
Now, at age seventy-seven he has reduced his involvement in committees and is focusing mostly on productions. He says, “I came to the theatre as a creative outlet but remained because of the people. The folks I grew to know at the theatre are my family and are truly great people.”
